Some simple thoughts on The Last Supper by Leonardo da Vinci

(Alcune semplici considerazioni sull’Ultima Cena di Leonardo da Vinci)

The painting shows Jesus Christ and the 12 apostles during the last supper

(Il quadro raffigura Gesù Cristo e i 12 apostoli durante l’ultima cena).

This painting reflects the condition of isolation of Jesus in his sacrifice. Jesus is alone: note the window frame behind him that detaches him from the other people in the painting.

(Il quadro riflette la condizione di isolamento di Gesù nel suo sacrificio. Gesù è solo: notate il bordo della finestra dietro di lui che lo distacca dalle altre persone nel dipinto).

“Dipinto” and “quadro” are synonyms; “…che lo distacca” can be thought of as “…che distacca lui”, hence the translation “…that detaches him”; “note” is translated as “notate”, which comes from the verb “notare” and expressed in the present indicative tense (“indicativo presente”) “(voi) notate”.
