What is the difference between plastic and elastic collision?

An elastic collision is a collision where objects will bounce after they hit each other. For example balls in a pool game bounce after heating each other. For an elastic collision, Mechanical Energy Kinetic Energy, and Linear Momentum are conserved.

Plastic or inelastic collision involves Energy loss in the collision. For example when two cars hit they are deformed. In this case, kinetic energy is transformed into elastic energy leaving bumps on the car. Therefore, for a plastic collision Kinetic Energy is NOT conserved, but Linear Momentum and Mechanical energy are conserved.

You are asked to find the Young modulus for a metal using a sample of wire. *(a) Describe the apparatus you would use, the measurements you would take and explain how you would use them to determine the Young modulus for the metal.

How does a cyclotron work?

A trolley of mass 0.75kg is running along a frictionless track at a constant speed of 0.7ms-1, as the trolley passes below a mass of 0.5kg the mass drops a short vertical distance onto the trolley. Calculate the new velocity of the trolley and mass.
