Assess the view that conscience is not the voice of God, but is learned (35)

intro of answer: The consince is thought to be our inward source of determining right and wrong. There is much debate as to how this is influenced but even more so by its source. Some theorists such as Joseph Butler argue that our conscience is the voice of God and thus must always be obeyed as a source of divine authority , whereas Piaget, Kohlberg argue that the conscience is learnt from societal values and Aquinas unites religion and the idea of the conscience being leant by arguing that god gives us the principles of reason that we have to learn to apply correctly. There is a major logical flaw with the idea of the conscience being the voice of God which is that it places God at the center of all moral evil, while irenus does attempt to amend this problem , it still remains as the irnean theodicy changes the attributes of God. Therefore one has to agree with the statement as it is more logically coherent and reconcilable with religion
