Using examples of an Earthquake, describe the effects of the disaster. (4 marks)

Kobe Earthquake hit Japan in January 1995 with a magnitude of 6.9 Mw. The short term effects were that 6433 deaths occured, and around 27,000 people were injured due to collapsed buildings and structures. Also, liquefaction occured, causing damage to Port Kobe (which was built on reclaimed land) and caused buildings to collapse and sink. A long term effect is that over 300,000 people were left homeless and had to live in temporary shelters.
