How can you tell what gender a noun is in German?

There are three genders in German: masculine, feminine and neuter (der, die, and das). A lot of the time, you have to learn each noun’s gender separately. However, there are also quite a few rules that can give us an indication of what gender a noun will be. For example: its ending or suffix (e.g. -chen, -keit, etc.); sometimes its beginning or prefix (e.g. Ge-); or its meaning (e.g. seasons, months, weather, etc.)
