How do I write a personal statement?

The main idea of the personal statement is to convey the degree to which you are interested in your subject area. Moreover, is it about advertising your interests in such a way that you stand out to the University administrators. The best way to do this is to create a unique and attention grabbing first line. Therefore statements such as  'I have always wanted to study..' Or 'I am studying this because' should be avoided since they are generic and thus become tedious for the administrator after a while.

For humanity subjects, writing about books relating to a specific part of the course depicts dedication and a hard working ethic. For other subjects talks and shows may be more suitable in reflecting this strand. Furthermore, link your other subjects to your degree choice as much as it is logically possible to do so. For example, I discussed the portrayal of religion and the lack of it in my English Literarure set texts because I found that aspect so beguiling. Of course, some hobbies must be included in the personal statement to portray a well rounded individual but these must be limited to a few lines in order to be able to include all academic aspects.
