What is the difference between quantitative data and qualitative data?

Understanding this difference is a very important step in understanding the case studies you will have to study over this course. Both quantitative data and qualitative data are data collection methods, meaning a way (method) for psychological researchers to gather (collect) information (data) from experiments or surveys the particpants partake in.

Quantitative Data is data that is numerical and numbered, basically meaning they can by quantified. This data can come from answering a Likert Scale or a result from a test.

Qualitative Data is data that is collected that involves speaking. This data could come from a conversation that the researcher has with a participant.

An easy way to remember the difference is:
QuaNtiative: N for Numbers
QuaLitative: L for Language

There are many advantages and disadvantages that each of these data collection methods have, one that we can discuss further in our tutoring session!
