What is Customer Service and why is it important for a business?

Customer Service is a service given to customers before, during and after purchase to a standard thats meets customer needs. An example of good customer service is offerering advice pre sales, this would involve recommending a product to a customer based on what is best for them and not what product is the most expensive. This would make a customer feel valued and not feel as if they have been taken advantage of.

Having good customer service is important for a business because if they do not meet customer expectations a business risks losing their customers to their rivals. Poor customer service will lead to dissatisfied customers which could lead to complaints and this would damage the business's brand image and reputation. If a business has a reputation for customer service they are less likely to get repeat purchases and that will reduce their sales and ultimately their profits.
