what is ecological validity

Ecological validty in an experimental condition is how applicable the study is to real life. For example, an experiment conducted in a laboratory has low ecological validity, as this type of setting does not reflect real life or how a person acts in a situation outside of the laboratory. A field study reflects high ecological validity, as these are conducted in more real life settings, however bring about their own issues and problems.
