What are "supercurricular activities" and how can I use them in my personal statement?

Your personal statement needs to be carefully crafted to show off all your achievements and how they demonstrate intelligence and passion for your subject. There is a lot of emphasis placed on "supercurricular" activities, which means activities which you do outside of school hours, which have a direct impact on your academic career and improve your knowledge. This could be reading books or academic journals, visits or work experience, essay competitions or extra courses you've undertaken. Try to find a narrative pinning together some of your pursuits i.e doing A drove me to want to get involved in B, which introduced me to getting work experience at C, as it shows drive and that you are self-motivated in your learning, a key attribute required of any student at a university.
