How can I improve my essay structure to achieve a more in-depth analysis?

From past experience, I've found that often what people struggle to get the marks on when writing an essay in English is that they often get comments pointing out that there is too much summarising and not enough analysis or the reason for a point is unclear. There are many structures that can be used to encourage more analysis, however the one I find most useful is to write a PEAS paragraph. PEAS in an acronym that stands for point, example, analysis, and so what? Used throughout body paragraphs, it not only help structure a paragraph but also helps students to think about each sentence and where it fits. As they identify each sentence within the structure, it can help to build analysis as they are able to observe how much of their paragraph actually acts as analysis as often one does not even notice that they are simply summarising. Following analysis of the example, the so what aspect of PEAS also helps the student to ensure that their point is and remains relevant to the overall question by asking why this point is relevant, allowing space for the student to make a small connection back to the thesis or the question.
