Explain one theory of the Behaviourist Approach.

The behaviourist approach looks at different types of conditioning. Classical Conditioning is put forward by Pavlov, looking at learning through association. He uses dogs to show how it works; a dog is given his dinner (the uncontrolled stimulus) and when he is given it, he salivates (an uncontrolled response). Pavlov looked at gaining this same response from something else, through association. Pavlov then rang a bell (neutral stimulus) whilst the dog got given his dinner, thus again producing the uncontrolled response of salivating. Pavlov then rang the bell again, without the dinner. However, because the dog now associates the bell with his dinner, he begins to salivate anyway. Therefore this response is a conditioned response.
