What is the difference between a divergent and convergent plate boundary

Think of the divergent film! Trish (a divergent) moves away from the faction system. Divergent plates do the same! They move away from each other, whereas convergent plate boundaries move towards one another. The old words for these plates were: destructive for convergent and constructive for divergent but due to syllabus changes, new vocabulary is expected of students! The 3rd type of plate boundary is a conservative plate boundary which is otherwise known as a transform margin. An example of this would be the San Andreas Fault lineWith regards to the convergent plate boundaries. One type of boundary you can get is an oceanic vs continental plate boundary another type is a continental vs continental and the final margin is an oceanic vs oceanic. We can talk about these in greater depth another time. However with regards to divergent plate boundaries you can either get an oceanic moving away from another oceanic plate creating a 'mid-ocean ridge.' alternatively you can get continental plates moving apart creating a rift valley.
