What is the difference between primary socialisation and secondary socialisation? (4 marks)

Primary socialisation is the process through which a child learns the norms, values, and appropriate behaviours for an individual within wider society. This usually takes place within the family, and can include siblings, grandparents or family friends. This usually only happens once in an individual's life.Secondary socialisation, however, takes place in institutions and organisations which are smaller, and may have slightly different values to the wider society or culture. For example, a new member of a workplace must learn the norms and values of that particular company. This can happen several times over the course of a person's life.
