When is the subjunctive used in Italian?

The subjunctive is a verbal mood used in Italian to express the following:1) Opinions eg. penso che... , credo che... followed by a verb in the subjunctive2) Wishes/hopes eg. spero che... , voglio che... followed by a verb in the subjunctive3) Doubt/uncertainty eg. dubito che... , impedisce che... followed by a verb in the subjunctive4) Feelings eg. sono contento che... , sono felice che... followed by a verb in the subjunctiveWhen the main verb in a sentence expresses one of these 4 ideas, the phrase that follows it must have its main verb in the subjunctive. The subjunctive is also used with certain set phrases, such as in hypothetical clauses (eg. se fossi in te...) indefinite clauses (eg. qualsiasi cosa sia...) and after certain conjunctions (eg. nonostante che abbia ragione...)
