Explain how the use of an ice bath can help reduce DOMS

Define DOMS:Delayed onset of muscle soreness occurs after high intensity exercise. Most strongly 24hrs to 72hrs after exercise. DOMS occurs due to small scale damage and tears in the muscle fibres. - It is often greater after eccentric training.Ice BathsFor the full effect of an ice bath, the athlete must sit in it for 5-20 minutes.During this time the blood vessels vasoconstrict and reduce blood flow to the muscle. This aids muscle repair by reducing swelling and tissue breakdown. After leaving the ice bath the blood vessels vasodilate allowing fresh blood to move into the muscle. The increase in fresh oxygen helps to remove lactic acid. However, some studies claim ice baths don't have as big of an effect as some have previously claimed.
