What is meant by the term cross-media?

Cross-media refers to large media texts which are present on different media platforms simultaneously. The mix of each of these media forms contributed to the overall media text. For example, BBC News is a cross-media broadcaster as they have a TV channel, online website and social media which all work together to create BBC News.
