How to write the perfect personal statement for entry to a medical school?

The main concept to realise is that you are not the only one to be applying, you are competing against a large number of candidates which can range into its thousands. Things such as football captain, prefect or school society member are frequent features of many thousands of personal statements the assesors read day in, day out. So what makes me stand out? The key is recognition of a high level of sport, from earning belts in martial arts to winning tournaments in table tennis, the possiblities are endless. Reading a book, not Harry Potter or Of Mice and Men, but titles such as The Emperor of all Maladies by Siddartha Mukherjee. Books which reflect intrests of medicine that you have and are developing. It often shows that if there are concepts which intrests which intrigue you, you are not afraid to follow these up and investigate further. Work experience selection is often key, everyone wants to be a cardiothoracic surgeon, but the fact of the matter is there is a shortage in specialities such as psychiatry or even as a GP. Choose the non-conventional routes but remember, that healthcare is still healthcare, these specialties are pivotal in contributing to the overall picture of the healthcare system and should not be ignored. These are some of the techinques I have used and have proven to have success with, which I can explain in further detail.
