How do I pick my EPQ topic?

This can be quite daunting and hard as it feels like a big task, especially if you are going to be writing 5,000 words on it!! When I did mine, I found it helpful to write down a list (or do a mind map) of different areas that interested me and also to think about why I was doing the EPQ. Working out why I was doing the EPQ was really important in my topic decision process, as I was doing my EPQ to show interest in my topic area for uni and I hadn't studied that area before, so I picked a linked area. So once I knew the rough area, for example, life in prison, I then carried out some basic research. In the beginning, don't get bogged down with too much literature as you are trying to work out if that area is interesting to you!! One of the most important things about the EPQ is doing something you are interested in, otherwise, when you are 3,000 words in, you will not be enjoying yourself!! After this initial research, you hopefully will know a more specific aspect of that area, for example, the rehabilitation within prisons in the UK, so then you are start to research more and begin formulating a question. Don't rush the initial process, taking time to find the area you are interested in is far more important being the first in your group to have a question sorted!
