‘Candy is central to our understanding of life on the ranch'. Discuss

It might seem like a big question but split a plan into THREE blocks which can make it easier. Once you feel more confident, you can see how these blocks link and overlap to build an answer to the QUESTION (always keep the question in mind)Who? 2. Language Analysis 3. Thematic AnalysisCandy is a “tall, stoop shouldered old man” who has lost his right hand. He has been reduced to the “swamper” and is disabled. He is described as a “no-body”.He is also described through his dog “drag-footed...blind,old eyes” Use the same quotes as it will be easier to remember! “Stoop shouldered” is alliteration with the different sounding "s" consonants. What does this add? It emphasizes the words and thus his visible disability. What does this all mean? THIS is what the question wants. The other two blocks help you build your understanding and confidence. Candy needs his hands to work for the American Dream. Candy is a worker and represents the reality. Link to Candy’s dog where you can explore the theme of loneliness and link it to other characters.
