Listen to Dido's Lament: 'When I am laid in earth' - Purcell, whilst reading the score. List 5 musical and/or thematic reasons that shows this is an example of Baroque music ex

There is a chromatic descending ground bass ostinato played by a viol. This is archetypal of baroque recitativesThe continuo is written for a viol consort. Viols are the baroque predecessors to common violins, violas and cellos.Due to the piece being written in the melodic minor, false relations often occur, providing semi-tone clashes between notes that aren't resolved. This was a common trait of Baroque harmonic composition. On the recording, the viol players can be heard to improvise harmonically and rhythmically on their repeats. This was common practice for performers in the 1600s as it kept the music interesting for the performers. This piece is in 3/2 time and has the continuo providing accompanying minims while the melodic vocal line is much more rhythmically diverse and flowing.
