How do I analyze a Text for paper 1?

While reading the text look the following features:Text Type (Article? Speech? Interview?)Elements of the text type (How do you know it is this text type and why did he use it?)Audience (Who is the text written for? Why? How do you know the target audience?)Purpose (Why was the text written? How can you tell?)Context (Time/place/ situation the text was written. How does this affect the meaning of the text?)Author (Who is the author? Why is it important? Is he credible, biased, etc.)Language (Literary features: persuasive techniques, formal lan, etc. How does it show the tone and mood of the text?)Image Analysis (Why was it included?)Meaning (What is the significance of the text? The subtext or deeper meaning of the text? Usually related to society)These elements are essentially the backbone of your essay. When you are answering the given guiding questions they will provide the support for your arguments.

How do I go about writing a commentary on an unseen prose?


Writers of fiction do not always relate events in chronological order. In at least two works you have studied, explore the effects of telling the story in a non-chronological manner.


I am struggling with English: Language & Literature (HL) Paper 2. When I write practice papers, I never know how to structure my work to include the criterion A) knowledge of texts and contexts.
