How do I effectively use my experiences and achievements to demonstrate my skills in the personal statement?

It is important that your personal statement does not consist of a list of experiences and achievements. You need to constantly relate all experiences and achievements to skills that you’ve learned through them, and you then need to use these skills to show that you are a good fit for the course. For example, instead of saying “I did a summer internship in a law firm. I also did work experience in a cafe” you should say something like “The summer internship that I did at the law firm allowed me to develop my time management skills and my ability to work under pressure, as I had to complete complex tasks in limited time periods."
It is also crucial that you include an appropriate range of experiences and achievements, and that you show that they have helped you develop a variety of skills. If everything you talk about is directly linked to academics, you are not demonstrating your willingness to pursue your interest outside school, and you will only be able to include a limited set of skills. Equally, not everything should be about internships, sports, and other extra-curricular activities as academics - and the skills you acquire in school - are central to any university course.
