Please give two examples on why deposition occurs.

Deposition can occur firstly as a result of gravity settling. This happens when the energy required to transport sediment becomes too low. Large sediment is often deposition first. Deposition can also occur as a result of flocculation. This is a depositional process that is specific to smaller particles. Small particles and in most cases clay clump together due to either electrical attraction or chemical reaction. The clumping of smaller particles result in the particle being too large to be transported and thus is deposited on the sea or rive bed.
