Provide a more in depth technique of answering an analysis question than a PEE paragraph.

A PEE paragraph provides a vital basic structure to follow when answering a question. However, the PEE technique focuses more on the organisation of an answer than how to actually write one's answer. A higher-level answer, especially in literary analysis, will use the SWEATY technique. S stands for the statement made by the student about a character/ scene/ atmosphere (etc) that he/ she will convince the marker of. W stands for weave denoting when a quote from the text that supports the student's point is woven into their answer. E refers to the specific effect that the quote has. This part is crucial to the student's answer as this shows how well a student can defend his/ her statement. A refers to the impact on the atmosphere of the text. T denotes the specific technical term used by the writer. If a student can consistently identify technical terms, it shows they have a clear understanding of the techniques used by the writer in the text. Y reminds the student to refer back to the specific question he/ she has responded to and to ensure they can say that yes I have answered the question.
