Describe the process of synaptic transmission

An electrical signal reaches the end of a neuron, causing vesicles containing neurotransmitters to move towards and fuse with the pre-synaptic membrane, releasing the neurotransmitters into the synaptic cleft. The neurotransmitters move across the synapse and bind to receptors on the post-synaptic membrane, causing an electrical signal in the neuron.
