Solve the equation: x^2+7x=-12

The first step for this question is to rearrange the equation to get the right hand side equal to 0.x^2+7x+12=0Next, we have to try and factorise this equation. We do this by considering what two numbers multiply together to make 12 and add together to make 7? (112, 1+12) or (26, 2+6) or (3*4, 3+4). The only combination that works is the third one. This means we can factorise into the form (x+4)(x+3)=0if the expression (x+4) and the expression (x+3) multiplied together make 0, then one of the expressions must equal 0. Therefore x=-4 , -3.
