Evaluate the use of JIT manufacturing.

Just in time manufacturing is a workflow method that aim is to make production lines more efficient. JIT production makes the exact amount of products at the time the customer needs them. The advantages of this are that there is reduction in the capital a business has tied up in stock as well as reduced costs of storing raw materials. Also, JIT production lines prevent over-production as the production is tailored to customer requirement. The disadvantages of JIT manufacturing are that employing the system can mean a complete overhaul of a production line which can be expensive and time consuming to set up. There is also no fall back stock which can be a risk is their is a sudden influx in customer demand for a product. The biggest disadvantage to JIT is the rely on raw material deliveries which can easily be disrupted due to transportation delays. This can mean that products will be stuck unfinished on production lines.
