"An inclined plane at an angle of 25 degrees to the horizontal has a pulley at its top. A 30kg block on the plane is connected to a freely hanging 20kg block by means of a cord passing over the pulley. From rest how far will the 20kg block fall in 2s?

For the 20kg block choose downward as positive and for the 30kg block choose the x axis along the incline as positive.Apply Newton's second law of motion to each block separately. The pulley is frictionless and the tension is the same on either side of the pulley. We can eliminate tension from the two equations of motion and solve to find the acceleration of the 20kg block. Using this acceleration we can calculate distance travelled in 2 seconds using the appropriate 'suvat' equation.

What is the optimum angle to throw a snowball for maximum horizontal displacement? (Ignore air resistance, assume the snowball is thrown level with the ground. The angle is measured from the ground up)

A 1kg spring has an unloaded length 10cm and has an elastic constant of 100N/m. It is compressed to 6cm then placed facing upwards on the floor. When released it travels vertically upwards. How high does it jump? You may assume no energy is lost to heat o

A small ball is projected with speed 15 m/s at an angle of 60 degrees above the horizontal. Find the distance from the point of projection of the ball at the instant when it is travelling horizontally.
