How is abnormality defined?

Abnormality is a fluid concept that can mean different things to different people in different cultures and society. However, this subjective term can be operationalised by the DSM. This categories abnormality as falling into a few categoires: deviation from social norms, deviation from statstical norms, deviation from ideal mental health and the failure to function adequately. All of these put together, happening at the same time for a specfic time period can result in someone be diagnosed as abnormal.
