How do I chose what to include in my Personal Statement?

Firstly, consider what you're aiming to achieve from your personal statement: you want to get into the University of your choice to study a subject/subjects you love. Therefore, your personal statement needs to be about you, your passion for the subject(s) you're applying for and demonstrate your ability to succeed. As you're applying to study, the majority of your statement should be related to your academic topics: Have you won an academic prize in the subject you're applying for? Have you read any books related to the subject you're applying for? What work experience have you done to show you're passionate about what you're applying for? What skills have you gained from these that helps your understanding/ability to succeed in the subject(s) you've chosen. The rest of your statement needs to show that you're a person not just an academic machine, that you have skills and hobbies. It's a really good idea to tie these two parts together, admissions tutors read many applications a day so they don't want to have to figure out what skills you gained from a list of hobbies/activities, you need to make it very clear to them. It's better to include a couple of key hobbies and demonstrate how the skills you gained from them will help you succeed, than list all your hobbies/activites with no explanations.TOP TIP: If you're set on applying to a particular university/universities take a look on their website or in their prospectus as some will give guidance on what they're looking for in personal statements.
