To work out the median of a set of numbers we first place them in order: 1p, 2p, 2p, 2p, 2p, 10p, 10p, 20p, 50p Then the median is the middle value in the list, in this case 2p. To work out the mean we must ...

How would I solve the equation 25^x = 5^(4x+1)?

You would have to rewrite 25 as 5^2 hence 25^x = (5^2)^x = 5^(2*x). Then 5^(2x) = 5^(4x+1) and therefore 2x = 4x + 1 hence 2x = -1 hence x = -1 / 2.

Emma has a digital photo. The photo has width 960 pixels and height 720 pixels. Write down the ratio of the width of the photo to the height of the photo. Give the ratio in its simplest form.

4:3 Working: 960:720 (divide by 10) 96:72 (divide by 8 as 8 is common multiple of both 96 and 72 (should know this from times tables)) 12:9 (divide by 3) 4:3 simplifying slowly and in small steps reduces the...
