FAQs for Parents and Students
From queries about our tutors to help on lesson space set-up, here are
the answers to any MyTutor questions you might have.
-
What is MyTutor?
MyTutor is an online marketplace which helps parents and students connect with bright and engaging tutors. Our tutors provide one-to-one tuition through our lesson space removing the hassle and cost of travelling meaning students can enjoy tuition from the comfort of their home.
-
Who are the tutors?
Our tutors are current university students or recent graduates from top UK universities who have achieved excellent grades (A/A*s in their A-levels or equivalent) and are specialists in their subjects. All tutors are personally interviewed before they join our website.
-
How do you ensure quality?
All of our tutors have achieved outstanding grades at school (A/A* at A-level, 6/7 in International Baccalaureate or equivalent) and are personally interviewed by a member of our team to ensure they are well motivated, strong communicators. In addition, you may wish to read feedback from others who have previously worked with that tutor to help you make your choice; all parents and tutees are invited to leave feedback after each session they hold with a tutor which then appears on the tutor’s profile.
-
How do we connect with a tutor online?
Getting started is easy. You can either contact tutors directly (using the ‘Message tutor’ button on their profile) or you can send out a
Tutor request to a selection of our tutors and let them get back to you. Once you have emailed your tutor and arranged a time, simply book a free meet-the-tutor session to connect with your tutor in our lesson space. The lesson space has a video link (a bit like Skype) and messaging so that you can see and talk to your tutor in real time, as well as an interactive whiteboard on which the student and tutor can write, draw and share documents.
-
How do I try it free?
You can enjoy a free 15-minute meet-the-tutor session before you make any commitment to book with a tutor. In the free session you can discuss your needs with the tutor to make sure they are right for your child. We know how important finding the right tutor is, so you can meet several tutors before making a decision. What’s more, there’s no obligation to book after your free session.
-
How does online tuition differ from tuition in person?
Instead of travelling to your tutor’s home or meeting them elsewhere, lessons are conducted through an lesson space (which is a bit like Skype with a digital whiteboard). You will still benefit from individual sessions which are tailored to your child’s needs. You will also enjoy added benefits. You can arrange lessons whenever and from wherever you like, meet a variety of tutors before you decide to book, watch back lessons after they take place, and pay as you go without having to commit to a minimum number of lessons.
-
Can I sign up a student if I’m not their parent?
