I am a medical student studying at the University of Manchester. My ultimate decision to choose this career path was the result of a strong interest in the human body and the ability to witness the positive impact my decisions can have on people’s lives. I am enjoying the course immensely and often get immersed in learning about the intricacies of the body systems. Anatomy is my favourite part!
I have experience working as a Math tutor in the local community supporting GCSE students and enjoyed this immensely. When tutoring, I try to find the student’s weaker topics and use this to ensure the student is getting tailored support that provides them with the understanding and practice required in these areas.
I find that when learning new things, it’s most effective to utilise spaced repetition and frequent testing. This allows us to learn much faster by filling any gaps in knowledge and allows the information to be stored in the long-term memory which will make revision easier when exams are near. This technique has proven very effective with my students, and I will be using this as the basis for my lesson-planning.
We only take tutor applications from candidates who are studying at the UK’s leading universities. Candidates who fulfil our grade criteria then pass to the interview stage, where a member of the MyTutor team will personally assess them for subject knowledge, communication skills and general tutoring approach. About 1 in 8 becomes a tutor on our site.
