Comment on how Schoenberg uses: Melody, Harmony, Rhythm, Texture and Dynamics in Peripetie from Five Orchestral Pieces

The melody of the piece, which uses all twelve pitches, is disjunct. This is due to the fact that Schoenberg used octave displacement throughout his piece. The harmony is atonal. This is helped by the use of chromatic, non-functional chords. The rhythm is complex and irregular which is due to the use of cross-rhythms in the piece. The texture is constantly changing throughout the piece. While the piece is largely contrapuntal, there are also homophonic and monophonic sections. The dynamic range of the piece is wide and spans ppp-fff. These dynamic changes are also sudden. This is notable at the end of the piece when the dynamics change from fff to pp as the piece dies away to nothing.
