How do I write a good introduction to my essays?

 Question: "Anglo Spanish relations deteriorated in the years 1558-1588 largely as a result of reactions of the English" Assess the validity of this view. Three key things you need to do in a historical introduction: - C.O.D Contextualise- Provide background information about the period that will be discussed in the essay. E.g. “Upon Elizabeth’s ascendance to the throne in 1558, England once again began to turn back towards Protestantism, creating an ideological rift with the Spanish. Outline- State the arguments you will go onto discuss in the essay (at a higher level - how you will argue them). E.g. “Whilst the deterioration of Anglo-Spanish relations can be attributed to the English as is seen through excessive English privateering and the actions of the English in the Netherlands, the role that Spanish ambassadors to England De Spes and De Mendoza played in worsening relations cannot be ignored.” Define- Define the Key words of the question. - Pick out the key words of the question.
