What could be limitations to stress inoculation therapy? (SIT)

Whilst it does have many advantages over biological forms of stress management, it is limited by the fact that it requires a lot of time to complete therapy and that it is very expensive. Overall, many agree that in the long term, SIT is more effective than biological methods. I have outlined their points of evaluation in the tables below:

Biological stress management (Benzodiazapines and Beta blockers)

+ Fast acting compared to other treatments

  • Treat only the symptoms rather than the problems themselves

  • Chemical side effects

  • Dependence

Psychological therapy (SIT)

+ No side-effects

+ Combats the problem itself

  • Needs the person to be motivated to make the therapy work

  • Expensive and time consuming
