When should you use the subjunctive in French?

The subjunctive should be used in French  after verbs expressing:

  1. wish or desire e.g. désirer que, souhaiter que, vouloir que

  2. necessity, orders, advice, eg. falloir que, exiger que, conseiller que

  3. emotions, e.g. avoir peur que, détester que

  4. possibilty, doubt, opinion e.g. être possible que, douter que, sembler que, 

and after certain conjunctions, including: bien que, à condition que, pourvu que, sans que, afin que.
