Describe the reasons why the rates of strontium and barium with water is different

Barium reacts quicker with water than strontium as it has a lower first ionisation energy than strontium as barium has a larger atomic radius and so their is more shielding for the outer electrons. although barium has a greater nuclear charge than strontium which would decrease the reaction rate, this effect is outweighed by the other two factors mentioned. Barium therefore reacts faster with water than with strontium

When going down group 1 on the periodic table, what happens to reactivity?

What factors influence the reaction rate?

Explain: 1. Why butanoic acid has a higher boiling point than butan1-ol? 2. Why carboxylic acids of short chain length are more soluble in water than those with longer carbon chain length?

Why is the boiling point of water significantly greater than that of other group 6 (16) hydrides?
