An alcohol, X has an Mr of 74 and percentage composition of 64.9% Carbon, 13.5% Hydrogen and 21.6% Oxygen. It does not turn potassium dichromate (VI) green. Determine the structural formula of X, and state its name.

64.9/12 = 5.40833

21.6/16 = 1.35

5.40833/1.35 = 4 so 4 Carbons

13.5/1.35 = 10 so 10 Hydrogens

1.35/1.35 = 1 so 1 Oxygen

4x12+10+16 = 74 so emperical formula = Molecular formula

it is a tertiary alcohol because it does not turn potassium dichromate green

(CH3)3COH

2-methylpropan-2-ol

Imagine a reaction A for which the values of ΔH and ΔS are both negative. It is known that the absolute value of ΔS is 3 times smaller than the absolute value of ΔH. For what values of T does reaction A occur spontaneously?

The Aldehyde CH3CH2CHO (A) reacts with HCN to give a racemic mixture, name the compound CH3CH2CH(CN)OH (B) formed and explain why we get a racemic mixture and how we could differentiate between two different enantiomerically pure solutions of B

What evidence is there to support the delocalised model of benzene over Kekulé's model?

Propane and Chlorine react in the presence of UV light to give 2-chloropropane and HCl. Estimate the enthalpy change of this reaction using the following bond enthaplies (KJ/mol) : C-H=+413, Cl-Cl=+243, C-Cl=+346 and H-Cl=+432.
