How is the French subjunctive mood constructed?

The subjunctive mood is used in French to express several different things, such as uncertainty, hope or fear. Firstly we will look at how it is constructed: For regular verbs, we take the third person plural present (ils/elles), and remove the ending to find the stem. Then we add the following endings: -ER verbs - PARLER - (ils parlent = parl-) je parle, tu parles, il parle, nous parlions, vous parliez, ils parlent -IR verbs - CHOISIR - (ils choisissent = choisiss-) je choisisse, tu choisisses, il choisisse, nous choisissions, vous choisissiez, ils choisissent -RE verbs - RENDRE - (ils rendent = rend-) je rende, tu rendes, il rende, nous rendions, vous rendiez, ils rendent Irregular verbs - the construction of irregular verbs in the subjunctive is a little different. Today we will look at two of the most common verbs, avoir and être   Avoir - j'aie, tu aies, il ait, nous ayons, vous ayez, ils aient être - je sois, tu sois, il soit, nous soyons, vous soyez, ils soient
