What skills are medical schools looking for?

There are a number of fundamental skills that medical schools look for in students, the classic ones being 'leadership', 'the ability to work in a team' and determination. It is important to be able to link these skills to the work done by doctors, e.g. working in a team is important because doctors work with other healthcare professionals for almost every patient and therefore it is critical that medical students develop/ have started to develop these skills. It is a necessity to be able to give examples of when applicants have demonstrated these skills both in the personal statement and in an interview situation.
