When do plural nouns end with a -s , -x or -aux ?

Depending on the types of nouns, different endings apply.
·        Most of the time, turning a noun from singular to plural is easy, and you will only need to add a -s at the end of the word. Ex: un ordinateur (singular) -> des ordinateurs (plural)
·        However, the singular nouns ending in -au require an -x to turn plural.Ex: un cadeau (singular) -> des cadeaux (plural)
·        The same rule applies with the nouns ending with -al. In this case, you will need to put -aux to make the word plural. Ex: un cheval (singular) -> des chevaux (plural)
·        Although most of the singular nouns ending with -ou take an -s in their plural form, a few exceptions exist. To remember them, you need to learn them by heart.-         Bijou -> bijoux-         Caillou -> cailloux-         Chou -> choux-         Genou -> genoux-         Hibou -> hiboux-         Joujou -> joujoux-         Pou -> poux
To remember them, you can learn this sentence by heart « Viens mon petit chou sur mes genoux, ne fais pas joujou avec mes bijoux, jette plutôt des cailloux à ce vieux hibou plein de poux. »
