In what circumstances would we use the subjunctive mood?

The Subjunctive Mood is used frequently in the Spanish Language. On the most fundamental level, one could say that as soon as their is an element of doubt, uncertainty, supposition or subjectivity, the subjunctive is likely required; but there are also specific set expressions and conjunctions that trigger the subjunctive, which can be learnt to be used and reproduced in an exam context. A simple acronym that can help is "DIJE", which stands for Doubt, Influence,Judgement and Emotion. There are also exceptions that need to be learned.An example of the subjunctive mood could be the following:It's important that you finish your homework today.Es importante que termines tus tareas hoy.Here the subjunctive is triggered by 'es importante que', which indicates a suggestion and therefore falls under the category of judgement.
