What are the differences in writing an SAQ and an LAQ?

For an SAQ (Short-Answer-Question) the best thing is to be as concise as possible, as you are aiming for a word count of about 250-300 words. What the examiners want is to be reading accurate information that is directly relevant to the question, without any extra studies or sentences that draw the reader away from your thesis statement. You also have to make sure that you read the question carefully, as you will get marked down for mentioning too many or too little studies in your SAQ. In terms of the studies, try and be as concise as possible by only mentioning the key facts of the studies you are using, because going over the world limit can result in getting marked down. You will generally be expected to write 2-3 short paragraphs for an SAQ. For example, if only one study is required, then use the first paragraph as an introduction to what you will be talking about, and the second to talk about about your study. If you need two studies, then simply add another paragraph for your second one. You will never be expected to have a concluding paragraph for an SAQ, although a short sentence at the bottom would be good.
Now an LAQ (Long-Answer-Question) is where you have more room to go into detail about your studies, and show the examiner that you have a really good understanding of what you are writing about. The general word count for an LAQ is 800 words, so the questions that you will get will require in-depth answers that really show your knowledge and understanding. It is also very important that your essay is organised, so I would highly recommend that you plan out each paragraph beforehand so that when you begin writing your essay, it is easy to follow for the reader. It is generally agreed that an LAQ should have 2-3 studies in them (minimum 2!) so that you can compare, contrast and evaluate, and end up with a detailed answer. Overall, an LAQ should have 4-5 paragraphs. An example could be: P1 - Introduction, P2 - Study #1, P3 - Study #2, P4 - Evaluation of both studies, P5 - Conclusion. Don't be intimidated by the amount of paragraphs though. Just remember that you are only expected to write about 800 words, so each paragraph should be about 200 words
