Compare how an author of a text you have studied presents ideas about romantic commitment

For Gatsby, his love for Daisy remains present throughout the five years apart, as he treats his romantic affection towards her as reminiscent of a religious commitment. In pursuing Daisy, Gatsby committed himself to the "following of a holy grail", allocating Daisy with the supernatural ability to be able to restore him eternally youthful. Gatsby's religious associations with Daisy present a romantic commitment as it demonstrates the purity and righteousness in his affections towards her. Although Gatsby see's Daisy as the key to entering the aristocracy, Gatsby doesn't understand this the way the reader can, and believes his love to be surrounding the hopefulness and excitement associated with youth. Daisy reminds Gatsby of a time when he still believed he could beat the social hierarchy of the 20's, therefore he assigns her a supernatural ability to be able to restore him young forever, like a "holy grail." The guidance Daisy offers Gatsby provides evidence for his romantic commitment towards her, as throughout everything he remains committed and unwavering to her love, believing she can offer him a solace in the rigid hierarchy of social class in society.
