How do you draw an alkene stereoisomer?

Definition of StereoisomerThe meaning of a stereoisomer is compounds with the same structural formula but a different arrangement of atoms in space.
How to DrawYou start by drawing the Carbon to Carbon double bond which is the functional group of the alkene homologous series. It is important to note that each carbon atom can only have four covalent bonds in total. Therefore since both carbon atoms in the double bond already have two covalent bonds they only need two more. When the two highest priority groups are bonded on the same side of the plane then it is an Z-isomer but when they are on opposite sides it will be an E-isomer.
Useful TipsThe groups bonded to the carbons are represented diagonally in drawing due to the bond angle being trigonal planar (120 Degrees) as opposed to the usual tetrahedral (109.5 Degrees).Priority is determined by the relative atomic mass of each of the bonded groups. E.g. Hydrogen would be the lowest priority due to having an atomic mass of 1. Also note that when the two different groups bonded to the two carbons are the same (E.g. Hydrogen and Methyl) then it is known as Cis-trans isomerism.

A compound, HOCH2CH2CH2CH2COCl, reacts with itself to give a new compound. Give the IUPAC name for the starting compound, draw the mechanism for the formation of the new compound and give the prominant feature of the IR spectrum of the new compound.

At 25 °C, the initial rate of reaction is 3.1 × 10−3 mol dm−3 s−1 when the initial concentration of C is 0.48 mol dm−3 and the initial concentration of D is 0.23 mol dm−3 . Calculate a value for the rate constant at this T when rate = k [C][D].
