How do I add fractions?

The most important thing to remember about adding fractions is that the denominators of both fractions must be the same value in order for you to add them together. Where the denominators of each fraction are not the same, you must first find the lowest common multiple between them. The next step is to multiply out either fraction until both denominators are the value of the lowest common multiple, remembering that you must multiply the numerator of each fraction by the same value that you multiplied the denominator. The sum of the two new numerators will be the value of the numerator of the sum of the fractions. The denominator stays the same value.
