What is creative transformational coursework?

Creative transformational coursework is a form of assessment that involves writing in the style of an author whose work you have studied. For example, a student may write an extra chapter for an Austen novel, recounting an event which is only referenced through a letter; or write a poem that could be added to a collection by Keats, Hardy, Plath or Duffy. The purpose of such tasks is to actively engage the student in deep stylistic analysis of the author's works, because in replicating the author's techniques of language, form and structure, the student will be more able and confident to comment on such 'clinical' aspects of the unseen texts in the exam.
