Describe the trend in ionisation energies down group 1.

Ionisation energies decrease going down group 1, firstly since the number of shells in the atom increases so the atomic radius is increased. There are also more electrons between the positively charged nucleus and outer electron causing increased shielding. These decrease the nuclear attraction to the outer electron so less energy is required to remove it.
